By default, we are all imperfect beings, and in our quest for answers and for wholeness, we search and explore every option available. It is commonplace to see people spend hours painstakingly poring through internet pages, attending virtual and physical seminars, to seek answers to some of their troubling questions and pasts.
For persons familiar with meditation, gurus are usually the most sought after. It is commonplace to see people spend huge chunks of money to seek a guru, register in a masterclass, and attend ‘soul-lifting’ pilgrimages on how to solve their problems.
Taking the Fear out of Feedback
Feedback can be one of the scariest things and can cause a lot of stress. It seems like the words “I want to give you some feedback”, is like footsteps behind you in a dark alley; it can generate a real sense of dread! However, feedback does not always have to feel that way.
Keeping Calm - Managing Stress
We are living in very interesting times, there is a lot of uncertainty from day to day. For some of us the demands of job have increased, increasing weather disturbances and natural disasters; all these mean that we have increased stress and anxiety.
There are many ways to deal this this continued stress and anxiety: meditation, yoga, walking, going to the gym, movies, hanging with friends, social events and lots more.
One of techniques I use when coaching clients I named it “Calm Down”, it is a mental trigger that anyone can use when they are aware that they feel stressed or anxious. Now, you can link it to any phrase that you can connect with, that is ok.
The Power Of Reframing
Reframing is a technique used in coaching to shift the mindset so that one is able to look at a situation, person, or relationship from a slightly different perspective. As coaches we use this technique when we feel someone is stuck with one point of view. However, this is something that you can implement on your own.
Depression and the Workplace
The challenges that organizations face with dealing with depression in the workplace are mostly due to the stigma, uncertainty about treatment’s cost effectiveness and a lack of effective interventions delivered in the workplace setting.
Build more effective habits using If-Then Strategies
Research tells us that it is almost impossible to deconstruct the existing neural signature of a habit. Therefore, we can’t actually undo a habit (Graybiel & Smith, 2014). But we can build a new one.
